About Starcross Pre-School

Starcross Pre-School is a community pre-school, established in 1982 and situated in the Community Rooms on the grounds of Starcross Primary School. Governed by a voluntary committee, we welcome new members to help with the running of the pre-school, and we have an AGM in the Autumn Term each year which we hope the majority of parents/carers will attend. Ideas and suggestions from parents and carers are welcome throughout the year and interested parents are invited to attend our open committee meetings.

We receive government funding (Early Years Grant) for most children over 3, but we also rely on fundraising activities to help us cover costs. Parents' support at these events is vital.

Parents are also invited every term to let us know if they are able and willing to help out in the pre-school sessions. In addition to the benefit of hands-on experience of their child's pre-school setting, we offer a one free session per parent help but only if their child is attending the session they are helping. We request that parents arrive 10-15 minutes before the session starts to help prepare the room for the children, and the Play Leader will direct the parent in how they will be of most help during the session. Finally, of course, it all needs packing away, and where possible we are grateful if the parent is able to stay an extra 10 minutes or so to help. We do have a parent handbook providing helpful guidelines, which is available on request.

Our aims

Message from the Chair

I joined the Preschool Committee when my son started Preschool in January 2008, then became Chair in September 2008. As soon as I became involved in the Preschool I realised what a fantastic and dedicated team we have running the Preschool. The staff are passionate about their jobs and everything they do is for the welfare and happiness of the children. They are then fully supported by a great voluntary committee. We work very hard to adhere to all of the guidelines we are given, whilst maintaining Ofsted regulations, but we all have fun whilst doing this. So come and join us, you can help as little or as much as you like, help us to make a difference to our childrens' futures.

Looking to the future we are very hopeful that our existing building will be replaced early in 2009 offering excellent accommodation and new facilities to the Preschool, this is so that we can continue to offer the best for our children and carry on being the success we are today.
