Starcross Pre-SchoolHome > Information > Daily Routine
Pre-school sessions run from 9.00am-12.00 and 12.00-3.00pm, except Wednesday being only 9.00am to 11.30am only. After the morning or afternoon register various activities are set up for the children to choose from. The activities are based on the learning objectives of the foundation stage curriculum. The activities may include home corner, books, puzzles, painting, play dough, construction toys, trains, cars, dressing up, water/sand, drawing etc. During this time each child will be invited to participate in an organized activity such as cooking, planting, model making etc. In addition the Manager may respond to the mood of the group and set up spontaneous activities as appropriate. We advise that children are dressed in clothes which are suitable for 'messy' play, and request that they bring a pair of indoor pumps or shoes in addition to outdoor shoes and clothing.
At some point during each session the children will be taken outside (weather permitting) and have an opportunity to let off steam. Outdoor play may be tied in with a particular activity or game, or it may be simply a chance for free play and some fresh air in the millennium garden or playground. We also make use of our decking area which is used, under supervision, as a continuous outdoor learning environment where we can use the water tray, sand, slide and rockers, painting and other activities.
Each session offers a snack time (cafe style) where children are provided with refreshments. We request that children do not bring sweets into pre-school.
