Starcross Pre-SchoolHome > Activities Club > Activities Club - Summer 2008
Throughout the holiday children have enjoyed free choice, the pick and mix activities plus chilling out times. Look out for pictures from this summer on the website shortly.
In this short week the children made their own inventions plus our final sports - mini olympics, basketball and the parachute games.
Space - We showed the children the first man on the moon DVD displaying real footage of Neil Armstrong in 1969. They made space rockets, a large solar system, a 6ft space man that the children could place their head in to show their face as the space man. More sports! Uni-hockey, rounders, cricket, basketball and football. The children requested to play 'X Factor' again, so we did.
For our theme 'First Flights' the children made paper aeorplanes and a competition took place on who's plane was decorated the best and which one went the furthest. The children also made hot air balloons. The sports that took place this week were uni-hockey and handball. Orienteering was a big hit will all. 'Starcross has got Talent' was popular once more and the children also did 'X Factor Karaoke' with our club's judges - the children.
Sea Explorers - the children made spanish flags and we displayed a huge map of Chris Columbus' journey. Competitions took place for boat races and treasurer hunts. The children became 'pirates' and enjoyed these themes very much. Uni-hockey became a favourite once more and the children also enjoyed basketball, cricket, rounders, tennis, parachute games and relays!
The theme for this week was 'Sporting Milestones' and to celebrate this subject we held a Mini Olympics. The children made Olympic torches, medals and trophies and made up posters to advertise their event.
'Starcross has got Talent'’ took place, just ask the children how much fun this adventure was! Jam tarts were made and were very, very tasty as well as the usual pick 'n' mix and chilling out times... not forgetting our sporting activity days on a Tuesday and Thursday with Chris and his team.
The club's main theme over this summer holidays is 'Firsts in the World' and in their first week have discovered the history of 'Indians'. The children have been panning for gold, had Cowboy and Indian battles and made headdresses for an Indian lunch. They have set up a camp, you have to see it to believe how fantastic and how hard they have worked to achieve such a brilliant display.
The new sports activity plan, set up by the new play assistant Chris (a qualified PE teacher) has been a huge success on Tuesday and Thursdays. Uni-hockey has been introduced for the first time at the club and has been an outstanding success.
Children have been given certificates for their sporting achievements and for their outstanding behaviour.
Cooking has also taken place and the usual but tasty! Rice Krispies have been made.
